Bio
Dr. Travis Dams originally grew up in Michigan where he did is undergraduate training at Western Michigan University and completed his MD at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit. He transplanted to Indiana to complete his Family Medicine Residency at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, Indiana. After residency Dr. Dams took a faculty role with the IUSM Arnett Family Medicine Residency in Lafayette, Indiana where he has loved the opportunity to help develop the program from the ground up. In 2021 he became Program Director for the Arnett residency.
His clinical interests include inpatient medicine, obstetrics, outpatient clinic, and teaching. He values providing and organizing care for patients of all ages, and emphasizes caring for all aspects of a patient. When time allows he has a passion for medical history and humanities, and tries to incorporate this into his work where he can.
With IUSM, Dr. Dams is a member of the Graduate Medical Education Committee, IUSM GME Diversity Commitee, and the Department of Family Medicine Racial Equity and Diversity Committee. As a member of IU Health, Dr. Dams has been involved in R.I.S.E. (Resiliency in Stressful Events), Physician Wellness Committee, and had the opportunity to participate at the IU Health Arnett booth at Lafayette Outfest. He has also been involved with Greater Lafayette United Way, and has had the chance to sit on the Health Services Division team and be a member of the campaign cabinet for several years.
In his spare time, Dr. Dams enjoys golfing, exercising, trying to play guitar and drums, and spending time with his family.
