Bio
Dr. Raghu Motaganahalli is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine and Attending Surgeon at the Indiana University Methodist Hospital. He is the Division Chief of Vascular Surgery and the Program Director of vascular surgery training programs.
Dr. Motaganahalli completed medical school in India at Bangalore University and his general surgical training at the St John’s Medical College. He completed a residency in Surgery at St Louis University in Missouri and his Vascular and Endovascular training at the same institution. He also did a visiting fellowship at the cardiovascular institute of Buenos Aires under the mentoring of Dr. Juan Parodi.
Dr. Motaganahalli was awarded the Fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh besides Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He was a recipient of the German Surgical Society traveling scholarship through which he did a six-month visiting fellowship in the University of Dusseldorf.
Currently, he is a member of several national and international surgical and vascular societies. In recognition of his teaching commitments, he received the Indiana University Trustees Teaching Award, St Louis University Resident teacher award, as well as Indiana University Department of Surgery academic excellence award for teaching.
He is the President-Elect for Midwestern Vascular Surgery Society besides serving as the Past- President of the Indiana State Chapter American College of Surgeons and the South Asian American Vascular Surgeons.
He serves the American Board of Surgery as an examiner, consultant as well as associated with curriculum development for vascular surgery through the Association of Program Directors in vascular surgery.
He routinely reviews articles for several vascular surgery journals and serves as an editor of Annals of Vascular Surgery, Indian Journal of Vascular and endovascular surgery. He is on several committees serving Society for Vascular Surgery, Vascular & Endovascular surgery society, Midwestern Vascular Surgery Society.
He is the principal investigator of over 15 clinical trials in vascular surgery at The Indiana University School of Medicine and currently serves as the US National Principal Investigator for DW-MRI Transcarotid revascularization. Dr. Motaganahalli has over 80 peer-reviewed manuscripts, book chapters, and abstracts. He has presented or collaborated with over 100 presentations at national, international medical conferences, and institutions.
