Aimee Patel, MD, is proud to be Program Director of the IUSM Psychiatry Residency Program. Dr. Patel grew up in Indianapolis. She majored in Biology and Spanish at the University of Notre Dame, and she remains an enthusiastic fan of Fighting Irish football. While in training, she was fortunate to study abroad in Valencia, Spain; Oaxaca, Mexico; and Riobamba, Ecuador. She attended medical school at the Indiana University School of Medicine. Her first two years were at the IU Bloomington campus and she subsequently returned to Indianapolis for the final two years of training. She enjoyed her involvement with community mental health and the care of patients with serious mental illness during her psychiatry residency at the IU Indianapolis program.
Dr. Patel currently cares for patients at Methodist Hospital, where she is an attending psychiatrist on the adult/geriatric inpatient unit and with the ECT service. All PGY-1 residents work with Dr. Patel for two months during their first year of training, and she is always excited when PGY-4 residents choose to return for advanced electives. She treats patients with ECT every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Dr. Patel is also a faculty advisor for the IUSM Gold Humanism Honor Society.
Professionally, Dr. Patel is interested in emergency psychiatry, neuromodulation and caring for patients with disordered eating. When not at work, she enjoys traveling with her husband, running half marathons, reading fiction novels and spending time with her dog, Hugo.
