Shirley C. Henning, MS, CCC-SLP, joined the DeVault Otologic Research Laboratory in 2004 after graduating from Vanderbilt University, where she earned a master’s degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences. While at Vanderbilt, she received specialized cochlear implant training under a United States Department of Education Personnel Preparation Grant.

Ms. Henning has expertise in all aspects of speech, language, speech perception and neurocognitive assessments with children and young adults who use cochlear implants or hearing aids. She directed the subcontract for a five-year, NIH-funded study of the development and adaptive behavior of young children who have mild to severe hearing loss. Ms. Henning has a background in international banking, having worked for a major U.S. bank in Europe and New York for over 20 years. She is also fluent in German.
