Academic Scholarship for Visiting Students
The Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Emergency Medicine offers an Academic Scholarship for Visiting Students. This scholarship is available for underrepresented minority visiting students rotating at IU School of Medicine in a Department of Emergency Medicine program. Emergency Medicine rotations are available at Eskenazi Hospital and IU Health Methodist Hospital. Students with an interest in pediatric emergency medicine have an additional option to complete their rotation at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health. Interested applicants may apply for this $1650 scholarship using the online application form.
To qualify for this scholarship program, visiting students at IU School of Medicine must be full-time third-year medical students applying to fourth-year electives. Applicants must be in good academic standing at a US accredited medical school and have completed all third-year clinical requirements by the time of the elective with a USMLE Step 1 score of 215 or greater. This scholarship program is available to students who belong to a group considered to be under-represented in medicine (Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, and Pacific Islander/Native Hawaiian) with intent to pursue emergency medicine or pediatric emergency medicine. To receive this scholarship, students must be a US citizen or permanent resident.
How to Apply
Students who are interested can apply using the online application form. The application requires completed answers to all questions in the online form, an updated CV and medical school transcripts which must be uploaded as part of the application form. Applications received before March 1, 2019 are given priority.
Applications are reviewed by members of the IU School of Medicine Department of Emergency Medicine with attention given to academic performance, service, leadership and commitment to a career in emergency medicine.
Following scholarship selection, awardees need to apply for the Emergency Medicine clerkship rotation using the VSAS system.
