Why I chose IU Psychiatry Residency: I initially applied because I want a career in psychiatry research and IU Psychiatry is consistently one of the top 20-25 departments in terms of NIH funding. I was also drawn to IU by the availability of specialty clinics in my areas of interest (adolescent substance use and disruptive behavior disorders) and opportunities to work with experts in these fields. However, the very first thing I noticed at my interview day for IU was how happy and welcoming the residents are and how positive the culture is within the program and the department. In talking to multiple residents and faculty on my interview day, I was very impressed with how flexible the program is and the extent to which I am able to pursue experiences that fit in with my career goals.
