Why I chose IU Psychiatry Residency: There were a few reasons that drew me to apply to IU. One was knowing that Indianapolis has that Midwest charm and warmth that those of us who grew up in the Midwest are familiar with. I also liked that Indianapolis is unique in the way that you can live within the city, but don't have to travel too far to be in a very rural area. I'm not sure what my career will look like after residency, but having the opportunity to train in rural medicine was important to me. What ultimately made me feel at home at IU and led to me choosing this program is the people. The strong, caring relationships that the residents and faculty had with one another was apparent to me straight away. An important critera for me when choosing was finding a program where I could tell the residents had fun together and looked out for eachother outside of work, and IU certainly fit that critera.
