Bio
Hometown: Virginia Beach, VA
Undergrad: Old Dominion University (Norfolk, VA)
Medical School: Eastern Virginia Medical School (Norfolk, VA)
Professional Interests: Currently unsure. Leaning toward Cardiology, Heme/Onc, or dual hospitalist with a focus on underserved populations.
Hobbies: I'm a huge foodie and have tried over 12 new restaurants in my first 1.5 months here (hoping to try at least one new restaurant every 2 weeks)! Indianapolis offers multiple restaurant options for almost every cuisine, which is a huge perk (especially great for Riley hospitalist night shifts). I also love board games and exploring nature. There are some great trails not too far from the city, and the canal area in downtown Indianapolis is beautiful for a quick scenic walk after work or on days off.
Why IU: As cliche as it sounds, the main reason was the people - our residents seemed like some of the happiest residents I had met across my entire interview trail. One thing I remember the most was that my interview guides were also dressed in suits to help us feel like we blended in. I absolutely love my intern class and am so thankful every day that I matched here. Faculty are very interested in teaching and do a great job of balancing autonomy with support and guidance. Also, IU offers a little bit of everything - from global health opportunities, to research, and even opportunities to focus on academics/teaching through the Clinical Educator Track in addition to the normally embedded teaching opportunities in each rotation. It's a great place to go if you have interests in a little bit of everything and want to further explore your career options.
