Why IU: The sense of community, supportive environment, and mentorship. I clicked with the residents at my interview dinner, and knew I wanted to be a part of that community. I could tell the residents worked hard and received good training, but were also happy and supported by each other and the staff. IU has an extremely supportive environment, starting from the medical school all the way up to fellowship, and my rotations so far have only confirmed this. Additionally, because IU is such a large institution, it is able to support a diverse set of interests and set you up for success with the appropriate mentorship, which can be hard to find! From a city standpoint, I moved from a relatively big city, and Indianapolis was the perfect balance of big-city living and nature for me. I have been pleasantly surprised at the diversity of the city too. In short, it's a great program with great people in a great city.
