Why I chose general surgery as a career: I just couldn’t see myself being happy doing anything else on a daily basis.

Why I chose the IU School of Medicine General Surgery Residency Program: IU’s General Surgery Program has everything you could want in a residency program. The exposure to different types of hospital practice settings (county hospital, VA, Academic Medical Center, Children’s Hospital) definitely set it apart, but there are so many other opportunities at this program that I didn’t see in other programs. Specifically, incorporating a Master’s Degree program into the two years of dedicated research time (if you choose to take this time), as well as the opportunity to do an elective rotation abroad, through the partnership with the hospital in Kenya, during your clinical years, make this program unique.  Though there are many other reasons I wanted to train at IU, these are the specific ones that stand out in my mind based on my interests and what I was looking for in a program.

Professional/Research Interests: Professional interest is in thoracic surgery and surgical oncology. My research interest is in the role of palliative care in surgical oncology patients

Personal Interests/Hobbies: Photography, craft beer, basketball, boxing, running, yoga, traveling to new cities with friends and family
