Samantha Hendren, MD, MPH, FACS, FASCRS, currently serves as a Professor of Surgery. Dr. Hendren received her medical degree from Yale School of Medicine and her doctoral degree in General Surgery from the University of Pennsylvania.
Prior to joining Indiana University, Dr. Hendren practiced colorectal surgery for 15 years at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. In that role, she developed a quality improvement program for colorectal cancer surgeons in Michigan.
Her clinical focus is in colorectal surgery and includes colorectal cancer, colon cancer, rectal cancer, anal cancer, and pelvic exenteration.

Dr. Hendren is board certified in general surgery and colon and rectal surgery. She has a special interest in colorectal cancer surgery, including multi-organ resection for locally advanced colorectal tumors. Other conditions she treats include anal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis), diverticulitis, ostomy surgery, and anal conditions such as fistulas and hemorrhoids. She performs traditional and minimally invasive surgery.
