Bio

Beth Ansel, PhD, CCC-SLP, brings a broad perspective from her career in clinical research and practice, teaching, interdisciplinary research program development, clinical trial design and management and leadership skills gained in both academic and public service settings.

Ansel completed her doctorate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a postdoctoral fellowship at the Kennedy Krieger Institute in the Department of Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Following her postdoctoral training, she joined the faculty in the Department of Audiology and Speech Sciences at Purdue University and later was recruited to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to build a research program in traumatic brain injury and stroke rehabilitation.

As Research Program Director at the NIH, Ansel identified new scientific opportunities and developed effective research programs to support basic, translational and applied research. Program goals were achieved with targeted research initiatives (RFAs and PAs) that addressed emerging research objectives. She developed and authored a number of research initiatives to implement new program objectives.

Following a sabbatical at Christian Medical College in India, Ansel was committed to return to the clinical research setting. She joined the Department of Neurological Surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine and contributes to academic and research career development. She guides residents, postdoctoral fellows and junior to mid-career faculty in the preparation of competitive research proposals. She also works within the department to develop a research curriculum for the residency program, serves as a departmental liaison to other departments to increase research collaborations across campus and assists the department in expanding its clinical research program.
