Bio

Dr. Kamal Wagle, assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine, joined IU School of Medicine in August 2015.

Currently (starting April, 2021), Dr. Wagle is an attending physican at IU Health Connected Care Clinic under IU Health Community Medicine. IU Health Connected Care Clinic is a primary care clinic for patients on Medicare.

From August 2015 - June 2021, he wa
s an attending physician in primary care clinic in Eskenazi Health as well as in geriatrics consult clinic community health center(s) of Eskenazi Health. During this time, he also worked as an attending physcian in IU Geriatrics affiiliated nursing homes where he takes care of patients in subacute rehabilitation, memory care unit and long term care. Dr. Wagle was a clinical faculty in Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP), funded by Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA).  IU-GWEP program has been actively working on integrating geriatrics and primary care, enhancing interdisciplinary teams, community based resources, and family caregivers in care of older adults.  Dr. Wagle also served as an associate medical director of an CMS demonstration project called OPTIMISTC (Optimizing Patient Transfers, Impacting Medical Quality, and Improving Symptoms: Transforming Institutional Care).  This project ended in 2020 and did important work in reducing hospitalization by improving care of nursing home residents.

Dr. Wagle also teaches geriatrics to learners at various walks of their career ranging from medical students, residents, fellows,  social worker and nurse practitioner trainees. 

Before moving to Indianapolis, Dr. Wagle was on the faculty at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas. He did his residency in family medicine and an academic fellowship in geriatrics at Baylor. He earned a Master’s in Public Health from the University of Texas, School of Public Health, also in Houston. Prior to his training and education in the states, he worked in Nepal where he went to medical school in the Institute of Medicine, Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal.
