Bio

Dr. Toyia James-Stevenson is the Chief Physician Executive for the Indy Metro Region at Indiana University Health, where she oversees Primary Care, Specialty Care, and Employee and Occupational Health. As the Vice President of the Community Medicine Division, she leads operational initiatives across the Indianapolis Metro Region.

In addition to her leadership role at IU Health, Dr. James-Stevenson is an Associate Professor of Medicine Practice at the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM). Her clinical focus includes pelvic floor and functional bowel disorders, and she leads efforts to expand telemedicine access and improve GI care for women.

Dr. James-Stevenson joined IUSM in 2011 after completing her gastroenterology fellowship at Emory University. She has held key roles at IUSM, including IUHP Medical Director for Gastroenterology, Quality, Safety, and Women’s Health, and Associate Program Director for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. She also served on the IUSM Admissions Committee for eight years.

Nationally, Dr. James-Stevenson is involved in several committees, including the Audit Committee of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), the Telehealth Advisory Committee of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), and the Public Policy Committee of the American Medical Group Association (AMGA).
