Bio
Paul Wallach, MD, a nationally recognized leader in academic medicine and institutional innovation, joined IU School of Medicine in February 2018. Wallach collaborates with students, faculty and staff across the state to work towards his goal of ensuring IU School of Medicine is a top medical education institution in the nation. A strong believer in cultivating a culture of innovation, Wallach encourages students, faculty and other constituents to propose bold ideas that are tailored to IU School of Medicine.
Education and Work Background
Wallach completed with high distinction his bachelor of arts degree in chemistry in 1980 from Rollins College. He earned his doctor of medicine degree from the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine in 1984 where he also received the college’s distinguished alumnus award in 2011. Wallach completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of South Florida, where he served as the chief resident in 1987. He completed a faculty fellowship in general internal medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1992.
Wallach’s previous appointments include vice dean for medical education at New York Medical College and vice dean for educational affairs at the University of South Florida Health Morsani College of Medicine in Tampa.
Scholarly Associations
Wallach is a member of the executive board of the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME), and serves as its vice-chair. He previously served as treasurer, and has chaired the board’s Advisory Committee for Medical School and International Foundations of Medicine Programs, and represented the board to the Composite Committee for the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE). He has also served as chair of the USMLE Step 2 and Ambulatory Medicine and Anatomy Test Material Development Committees. He is a site visitor for the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).
