Bio

Dr. Levi Funches, Jr. is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and is Board Certified in Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.  He is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and completed his pediatric residency at Advocate Christ Hospital and Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Illinois, and his neonatal-perinatal medicine fellowship at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.  During his fellowship, Dr. Funches conducted his research training in the laboratory of Dr. Scott Saunders, where he studied the function and interactions of the heparan sulfate proteoglycan, Glypican 3. In 2011 for his work, he was awarded the Society of Pediatric Research Early in Research Basic Science Fellow Award.  His current research interests lie in neonatal growth and development, infant mortality, medical education, community health and engagement with fathers.
