Ongoing research is helping expand our comprehension of the complex control of oxidative stress. Our work has examined the effect of diabetes on drug metabolism, hepatobiliary function, and drug pharmacokinetics. Several specific interests include determining the role of antioxidants, red-light phototherapy, or low carbohydrate diets on oxidative stress in health and disease. A second area of active investigation involves study of the effects of oxidative stress on diabetes-induced complications. The early mechanisms of beneficial effects of red-light phototherapy are unclear, and we actively examining various possibilities.
Dichloroacetate alters Warburg metabolism, inhibits cell growth, and increases the X-ray sensitivity of human A549 and H1299 NSC lung cancer cells.
