Imtiaz A. Munshi, MBA, MD

Dr. Munshi graduated from the 7-year BA-MD program sponsored by Brooklyn College of the City University of New York and SUNY Downstate Medical Center. He completed his BA in 1987 graduating in 3 years, Magna Cum Laude with Honors in Chemistry and elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi Honor Societies. Dr. Munshi completed his Doctor of Medicine degree at the State University of New York in 1991; graduating Summa Cum Laude with Distinction in Research and Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed his MBA degree at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 2006.
Dr. Munshi completed his residency in General Surgery at New York Hospital-Cornell and Sloan Kettering in 1996. He went on to complete a Fellowship in Critical Care and Trauma at the Univ. of Miami, Jackson Memorial. Dr. Munshi has served as an academic general and trauma surgeon at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Baystate Medical Center and SUNY Upstate Medical Center from 1998 to 2006.
In 2006, Dr. Munshi was recruited to the Dept of Surgery at the IU School of Medicine. Here he holds the academic rank of Professor of Clinical Surgery and serves as an Attending Surgeon at the VA Medical Center. At the VA, Dr. Munshi is the Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and the Chief of General Surgery. At IU he is a member of the IU School of Medicine’s Admissions Committee and the Executive Committee for Admissions.
Dr. Munshi has taught many students and surgical residents. He has been actively engaged as principal investigator and co-investigator on numerous clinical and industry related research projects and has over 50 publications in peer-reviewed medical and surgical journals along with an assortment of other publications. Dr. Munshi has served as an Executive Councilor for the Indiana Chapter of the American College of Surgeons from 2007 to 2014 and is an active member of the Association of VA Surgeons.
