Richard T. Miyamoto, MD, was appointed chairman of the IU School of Medicine Department of Otolaryngology—Head & Neck Surgery in 1987 and served in this role until 2014. He was elected President of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, President of the Association of Academic Departments of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and President of the American Neurotology Society. Dr. Miyamoto’s major research emphasis has been cochlear implants, for which he was continuously funded by the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders. He has twice served on its Advisory Council. Dr. Miyamoto has been elected to the Collegium Otorhinolaryngologicum Amicitae Sacrum and the National Academy of Medicine.
