Bio
Dr. Sundaram completed his urology residency at the University of Minnesota and his fellowship in endourology at the Harvard Medical School affiliated Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England after initial training in Urology and Surgery in England. Before joining the faculty at Indiana University in 2002, he was director of the fellowship in minimally invasive urology at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Sundaram is the Vice Chair (QI), director of minimally invasive surgery, program director and Professor of Urology. The department’s minimally invasive surgery program is active with several studies to develop new techniques in robotic and laparoscopic urologic surgery.
Dr. Sundaram has over 170 peer-reviewed publications and is actively involved in several urologic organizations. He performed the first urologic robotic surgery in Indiana (2002). Dr. Sundaram directs the nationally recognized fellowship in minimally invasive urologic surgery. He is the treasurer and member of the executive committee of the Endourological Society, the premier international organization devoted to minimally invasive urologic surgery. He is the Executive Editor of the Journal of Endourology after being the Founding Editor of Videourology. He was elected to be a member of the exclusive American Association of Genitourinary Surgeons.
He has been President of the Society of Urological Robotic Surgeons. He was on the Board of Directors of the American Urological Association between 2015-2020. Other positions he has held include chair of the American Urological Association’s Committee on Laparoscopy, Robotic Surgery and New Surgical Technology and President of the North Central Section of the American Urological Association and the Indiana Urologic Association. He has been invited faculty and speaker at multiple institutions and at national and international meetings.
Dr. Sundaram's area of expertise includes robotic and other minimally invasive surgical approaches. He specializes in kidney cancer and other conditions of the kidney; adrenal tumors and prostate cancer.
