Shaoyou Chu, PhD, MD, a cell biologist by training, has more than 20 years research experience in cellular sciences and drug discovery. He joined the Indiana University School of Medicine in early 2020 as a Senior Research Professor of Medicine in the Division of Clinical Pharmacology, and the Investigative Cellular Pharmacology Leader with the IUSM Alzheimer’s Disease Drug Discovery Center.
Before joining IUSM, Dr. Chu was a Senior Research Scientist from 2005-2008, and a Principal Research Scientist from 2008-2018 at Eli Lilly Research Laboratories, followed by a career as the Senior Director of Cell Biology with Molecular Templates. He served as cell technology platform leader, made substantial contributions for many drug discovery projects in various therapeutic areas including oncology, neurodegenerative diseases, autoimmune diseases, and diabetes. He was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cell Biology and Genetics at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth from 2003-2005, and also as an Assistant Scientist/Assistant Professor in the Department of Cellular and Integrative Physiology here at IU School of Medicine from 1998-2003. After he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, he served as an Instructor in the Department of Medicine of The Johns Hopkins University from 1996-1998. Dr. Chu has co-authored more than 50 scientific articles.
Dr. Chu will lead the investigative cellular pharmacology efforts of the IUSM Alzheimer’s Disease Drug Discovery Center in collaboration with the Purdue Institute for Drug Discovery in West Lafayette. He is looking forward to making contributions to drug discovery programs in IUSM aiming to deliver clinic candidates for patients with unmet medical needs.
