Bio
Dr. Roach hails from the United Kingdom, receiving his higher education at the University of Glasgow in Scotland. He moved to the United States for post-doctoral training in 1972 and has essentially remained in the US ever since. While his primary focus has been on research, Dr. Roach has made significant contributions to the training of both graduate and medical students while at Indiana University. His research has been funded by NIH since his arrival in 1979.

Dr. Roach's work focuses on the metabolism of glycogen and its regulation, at the structural, cellular and whole animal level. In recent years, his work has been more directed towards genetic diseases accruing from defective glycogen metabolism, notably Lafora disease, a childhood-onset fatal epilepsy and Pompe disease, which has mainly skeletal muscle and cardiac pathology.
