Medical Alumni Weekend 2019

Thursday, May 16 – Saturday, May 18

Join us for a jam-packed weekend to celebrate the anniversary of your graduation from the Indiana University School of Medicine. Reconnect with classmates, visit your old stomping grounds and reminisce about your days as a medical student.

This year we celebrate the classes of 1954, 1959, 1964, 1969, 1974, 1979, 1984, 1989, 1994.

Registration packets will be mailed in January.

Early Bird Reception and Movie Screening

Already in town on Thursday? Grab a bite to eat at one of the many local restaurants then head over to the Keystone Art Cinema for a reception and screening of the Breaking Away. Prior to a private movie screening, join fellow reunion-goers for a cocktail during a reception in the cinema’s Indie Lounge.

Complimentary movie screening. Cash bar. Food not provided at reception.

Fast Friday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Friday, May 17, 9 am – 3 pm
Bus departs from Sheraton at Keystone Crossing

Join us for a VIP experience during Fast Friday at the Indianapolis 500. Enjoy lunch in a private hospitality room adjacent to Gasoline Alley where you’ll get an up-close view of all the action in the Garage Area. From there wander to the grandstand to take in the last day of practice prior to qualifications. Tickets include lunch in the hospitality room, garage passes, and general admission seating.

Round-trip shuttle provided from Sheraton to IMS. Space is limited. Moderate to heavy walking required.

Cost is $60 per person.

Welcome Reception with Richard Gunderman, MD, PhD

Friday, May 17, 3 pm – 5 pm
Sheraton at Keystone Crossing

Join Executive Associate Dean, Paul Wallach, MD, as he welcomes alumni to Medical Alumni Weekend.  Following a brief update on the School of Medicine, Richard Gunderman, MD, PhD presents the legacy of Otis Bowen. Reconnect with classmates prior to his presentation during a reception starting at 3 pm.

Event is complimentary. Snacks and refreshments provided.

Stand-Up Comedy Show

Friday, May 17, 6:30 pm – 9 pm
Sheraton at Keystone Crossing

The Healthy Humorist returns to Medical Alumni Weekend. The hit of last year’s reunion, Brad Nieder, MD, will share his clean, medical based stand-up comedy at a private show.

Dinner, beer, wine and soft drinks are included. Cost is $50 per person.

Breakfast with Medical Student Panel

Saturday, May 18, 7:30 am – 10:30 am
Sheraton at Keystone Crossing

Start your day with a hot breakfast buffet. Following breakfast from 9:30 am – 10:30 am students will share what it’s like to be in medical school today.

Breakfast is $25 per person. There is no charge to attend the panel. Breakfast is not required to attend the panel.

72nd Annual Strawberry Shortcake Luncheon

Saturday, May 18, 11 am – 1:30 pm
Sheraton at Keystone Crossing

Join us for the 72nd annual Strawberry Shortcake Luncheon as we honor this year’s recipients of the Distinguished Medical Alumni Award, George Sorrells, Jr., MD Community Physician Award, Early Career Achievement Award, and the Glenn W. Irwin Jr., MD Distinguished Faculty Award. This time honored tradition has been a highlight of the Medical Alumni Weekend since IU Physicians were first served the cream and crimson treat in 1947.

Event is complimentary and includes lunch and, of course, strawberry shortcake dessert.

Tours

Saturday, May 18, 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm
Depart from Sheraton at Keystone Crossing

Learn about the changes to campus over the years or see Eskenazi Hospital, the replacement to Wishard Hospital and Marion County General. Choose from one of two tour options: IU School of Medicine Campus Bus Tour or Eskenazi Hospital Walking Tour.

Tours are complimentary.

Class Receptions and Dinners

Saturday, May 18, 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm
Sheraton at Keystone Crossing

Reconnect with classmates over dinner. Classes will gather for a reception prior to enjoying a three-course meal in a private room at the Sheraton at Keystone Crossing with your individual classes.

Cost is $85 per person. Cost includes an open bar during the reception and three course meal with wine service.

Dessert Reception

Following the class dinners, we’ll gather for dessert and entertainment.

Reception is included in class dinner cost.
