  The IU School of Medicine Department of Surgery Diversity Committee guides efforts to conceptualize, socialize, promote, advocate, and help implement systems and structures to promote an inclusive culture. The inclusive culture we strive to foster appreciates the range of human differences, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, social class, physical ability or attributes, religious or ethical values system, national origin, and political belief. We invite and encourage all perspectives to make our decisions and actions as a forward-thinking Department.

  The IU School of Medicine Department of Surgery Promotion & Tenure Committee evaluates the clinical, scholarly, and citizenship activity of the surgical faculty. All faculty are assessed in their service, teaching, and research pursuits in a wholistic manner with the goal of facilitating advancement in the academic timeline.

  The mission of the IU School of Medicine Department of Surgery Recruitment Committee is to promote diversity in the area of recruitment, aligning with the priorities of the Department of Surgery Surgical Council and the IU School of Medicine Diversity Council. This committee will function within the Department of Surgery to ensure that a diversity-focused recruitment strategy is implemented for all new faculty considerations.

  The Department of Surgery established the IU Surgery Wellness Program to attend to the well-being needs of department faculty, staff, advanced practice providers, residents and fellows. Our current mission is to work on cultivating our relationships with one another that will foster more collegiality, communication and understanding.
