The Professional Development, Diversity and Wellness (PDDW) mission is to establish and sustain a culture that promotes faculty vitality and diversity in order to ensure effective and successful recruitment, development, retention, and promotion of surgical faculty at Indiana University School of Medicine.

    The IU School of Medicine Department of Surgery Diversity Committee guides efforts to conceptualize, socialize, promote, advocate, and help implement systems and structures to promote an inclusive culture. The inclusive culture we strive to foster appreciates the range of human differences, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, social class, physical ability or attributes, religious or ethical values system, national origin, and political belief.     The IU School of Medicine Department of Surgery Promotion & Tenure Committee evaluates the clinical, scholarly, and citizenship activity of the surgical faculty. All faculty are assessed in their service, teaching, and research pursuits in a wholistic manner with the goal of facilitating advancement in the academic timeline.

    The mission of the IU School of Medicine Department of Surgery Recruitment Committee is to promote diversity in the area of recruitment, aligning with the priorities of the Department of Surgery Surgical Council and the IU School of Medicine Diversity Council. This committee will function within the Department of Surgery to ensure that a diversity-focused recruitment strategy is implemented for all new faculty considerations.
