Why I chose IU Psychiatry Residency: I chose IU because at the interview dinner everyone felt like family. All of the residents were joking and seemed to know and care about each other. Additionally, the flexibility of the program was unmatched at all of the other programs I interviewed at. This is not a cookie cutter program. The program caters to each residents interests and future goals and develops a path to get you there. For example, I am interested in both research and education so I was allotted a half day to help redevelop the medical student curriculum and also work on a project in the First Episode Psychosis clinic. Additionally, I could not decide if I wanted to do child psychiatry or not so in my second year, the program created an outpatient child month at a variety of clinics, long-term facilities, and state hospital to help me to ultimately decide on child psychiatry. They continue to be flexible and support us in both clinical and personal matters. I love this program!
