I was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala where I lived with a foster family until I was adopted at age 4 months. I then grew up in Canton, OH with 3 younger siblings. I studied Biochemistry at The Ohio State University and stayed at OSU for medical school. I'm a HUGE Ohio State fan and Cleveland sports fan! While in undergrad and med school at Ohio State I came to love working with the under-represented and underserved communities - in particular the Spanish-speaking population. I am fluent in Spanish (I studied in Guatemala for 2 months during medical school to sharpen my medical Spanish). I am interested in the unique challenges these patients face in today's healthcare system. When I came to interview at the IU Med-Peds program, I knew I had found my home. From the incredible people that make up the program to the wide breadth of training with excellent categorical Medicine and Pediatrics programs, I knew this was where I needed to be. I also plan for global health to play a large role in my career with plans to return to Guatemala and serve the wonderful people of my home country. IU has a fantastic Global Health Track program, and I am especially looking forward to traveling to Kenya for the incredible 2-month elective offered here. Outside of medicine I love to cook (tacos are my specialty), travel, enjoy the outdoors, and spend time with family. IU has been the perfect program for me and we would love to welcome you as a part of our Med/Peds family!
