Why I chose general surgery as a career: General Surgery provides a union of clinical intensity and patient advocacy, in the midst of honing and mastering a beautiful craft.
Why I chose the IU School of Medicine General Surgery Residency Program: When I came to IU, I saw passionate surgeons who were devoted to teaching. Having a dedicated PhD faculty member who is focused on surgical clinical education, a chairman who is committed to developing and advancing the field of surgical education, and multiple faculty members who have been recruited from across the country to help make the residents at IU better surgeons really is unmatched at any other program I visited. As a resident at IU, I feel that the program is dedicated to cultivating a legacy of excellence. To feel supported and valued, even this early in my training, is a privilege I do not take lightly.
Professional/Research Interests: In the past I obtained my MS degree in an HIV immunology lab. In medical school, I focused on research in ethics and global health. Currently, I am studying immunology and pancreatic cancer immune pathways as well as clinical/pathologic variables of GI malignancies. I plan to pursue surgical oncology professionally.
Personal Interests/Hobbies: Prior to medical school I danced contemporary ballet professionally. Since residency, I have transitioned to other aspects of my physical wellness, including Crossfit and learning how to cook.
