Bio

Samina is a life-long Midwesterner and Wolverine at heart. She completed medical school at The University of Toledo College of Medicine and pediatric residency and fellowship training at Indiana University School of Medicine, Riley Hospital for Children. Her clinical interests in infectious diseases are diverse, but she finds Kawasaki Disease and the emerging condition, Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C), particularly interesting because of their variability in presentation and poorly understood pathogenesis. The statewide catchment area that Riley Hospital for Children serves has led to her being able to study MIS-C since it was described in May 2020.

Her clinical roles encompass related areas within the field of infectious diseases and community outreach. She is the associate medical director of Riley Hospital Infection Prevention, assisting John Christenson and Adam Karcz. Since starting, the IP team has been able to collaborate with The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis to provide free influenza vaccines to museum visitors. Additionally, she is an associate medical director for the Pediatric Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at Riley Hospital, assisting Jack Schneider and Michelle Kussin. She looks forward to bringing these two fields together for future projects.

In her free time, Samina enjoys cooking with her trusty cast iron pan, baking, adventurous eating, and checking out the newest coffee shops in town. If you don’t find her in any of these places, she is likely playing fetch with her dog at the War Memorial. If you ever need new podcasts to listen to, she can give you recommendations.
