Research Support Services
Many research related teams and organizations are available to support IU School of Medicine researchers focused on personalized medicine.
The broad scientific objective of Indiana Biobank is to provide high-quality samples that are well-annotated and linked to the electronic medical records, genomic and proteomic data, to basic and clinical researchers. The ability to successfully enhance and enrich research to carry out translational science in the new era of personalized medicin, is greatly facilitated by the availability of an extensive biorepository of biological sample, with accompanying clinical and genomic data procured from patients from IU Health, Eskenazi and other clinical facilities throughout Indiana. To serve the needs of Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI) and Indiana Institute for Personalized Medicine, the Indiana Biobank was established in July 2010.
Clinical Pharmacology Analytical Core
The Clinical Pharmacology Analytical Core is available to assist Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center investigators as well as external partners with pre-clinical and clinical pharmacokinetics in support of their research projects and scientific goals.
Indiana University Clinical Pharmacogenomics Laboratory
The Indiana University Clinical Pharmacogenomics Laboratory performs genotyping for variants associated with metabolism of routinely prescribed drugs. The laboratory is CLIA-certified and accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP). It is housed in the Division of Diagnostic Genomics of the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics of IU School of Medicine.
Center for Bioethics
The IU Center for Bioethics is recognized throughout the state and around the globe as a primary source for bioethics research and new information. Research addresses ethical, legal and social issues in health care and science with an emphasis on multidisciplinary approaches. Topics range from genetics to organ transplantation, medical research to health privacy, informed consent to pandemic flu preparedness.
