Sarah Roush Memorial Fellowship in Alzheimer's Disease Research

Through a generous donation from James and Nancy Carpenter, as well as a matching contribution from the Stark Neurosciences Research Institute, the Indiana Alzheimer's Disease Research Center established the Sarah Roush Memorial Fellowship in Alzheimer’s Disease Research, an annual postdoctoral fellowship supplement that provides $22,500 per annum to enhance fellows’ current research in the field of Alzheimer’s disease or other neurodegenerative dementing illnesses. These funds may be used for part of a fellow’s stipend or for direct research costs, subject to approval by the mentor and program committee. The Indiana Alzheimer's Disease Research Center strongly encourages applications from women and underrepresented minority candidates.

Requirements

Recipients are required to give a one-hour presentation on their research to the donors and scientific community during their fellowship and to submit a final research report at the conclusion. In addition, recipients are recognized by having their name, project title and year of fellowship added to the Sarah Roush Memorial Fellowship plaque.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this fellowship program, candidates must have already graduated or will graduate prior to the beginning of the fellowship with an MD, PhD or MD/PhD degree within nine years of the terminal degree. To receive this funding, an applicant must have sufficient uncommitted time enabling them to fulfill the fellowship requirements for the full year.

Application Process

Interested applicants must fill out the application form in its entirety. In addition, applicants must provide contact and administrative information, complete Curriculum Vitae (CV), a research proposal of no more than two pages clearly explaining how the fellowship will significantly enhance his/ her research and research training and help advance impactful Alzheimer’s disease research, and a letter of support from faculty sponsor/mentor as well as appropriate institutional approval for human subjects or animal research.

When writing the proposal, applicants are encouraged to use applicable NIH sections, including the specific aims, significance and approach. Proposals must be formatted using Arial, minimum 11-point font, .5-inch margin on all four sides of the document, 8 ½ x 11-inch paper size.
