Ocular Neurobiology Research

Stark Neurosciences Research Institute includes a growing group of investigators studying the most visible part of the nervous system, the eye. Part of the ocular neurobiology research interest group, many faculty are affiliated with the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Eye Institute. Research areas of interest include understanding degenerative diseases of the retina such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, inherited retinal degenerations and age-related macular degeneration, plus basic mechanisms of photoreceptor function and the manifestations within the visual system of other neurological disorders. Faculty use techniques including human and animal in vivo imaging, disease modeling with induced pluripotent stem cells, small molecule screening and therapeutic discovery and advanced microscopy.
