INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis chapter of the Neal-Marshall Alumni Club and the Diversity Enrichment and Achievement program at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis will host an inaugural internship and networking event Feb. 15.
The event will connect IUPUI students with black alumni professionals who will assist with identifying internship opportunities, facilitate networking and create mentoring relationships in a broad range of career fields.
“The goal is to begin a process of networking that will enhance student placement and help get students on their chosen career path after graduation,” said Sharvonne Williams, president of the IU Neal-Marshall Club’s Indianapolis chapter. “While all alumni are welcome to participate, we hope that alumni with internship opportunities will make this event a priority to meet exceptional students while promoting their organization’s employment opportunities.”
The event will begin with a brief reception at 6 p.m. in Taylor Hall, 815 W. Michigan St., followed by a speed-networking event with students. Students should bring their resumes and be ready to seek ideas and information about life after college. Students and alumni are asked to register for the event by Feb. 10.
The Neal-Marshall Alumni Club was founded in 1980 to meet the needs of IU African-American alumni and to increase their participation in local and national IU alumni groups. The club is named for the first African-American male and female graduates of Indiana University: Marcellus Neal, who earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1895, and Frances Marshall, who earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1919.
