Indiana University School of Medicine has a vast array of technology resources that are specific to education, research and clinical practice, and the Ruth Lilly Medical Library actively pursues collaborative projects that enhance learning spaces and benefit students, staff, faculty and researchers. Library staff work to integrate technology into the library’s learning spaces (The Nexus) and services. The library also explores health care applications of social media, mobile apps, 3D printing, and augmented and virtual reality.
3D Printing
Medical students can request 3D printing models for free.
The 3D Printing Lab is located in the Nexus II in Room 208. There are three FDM printers (TAZ Pro, Ultimaker 3 Extended, and an Ultimaker 2 Go) as well as a Formlabs Form 2 SLA Printer. With some restrictions, prints are currently run at no charge for IU School of Medicine faculty, staff, and students. Virtual Reality
There are 4 HTC Vive stations that are available in the Nexus (IB 207). Students at IU School of Medicine have 24/7 access to these stations.
The Reality Lab is a collaboration between the library and the UITS Advanced Visualization Lab and consists of four high end gaming PCs with HTC Vive Virtual Reality headsets. IQ Visualization Wall
The IQ Wall has a 7680 x 2160 resolution, more than 17 million pixels, and is 16 feet wide. It is great for group work and for visualizing large data sets.
All that screen real estate is great for group work and for visualizing large data sets. The IQ Wall is also touch enabled and is capable of displaying multiple computer sources at once utilizing Solstice. A video conferencing system with an auto tracking camera allows for collaboration with colleagues at IU School of Medicine campuses across the state.
