IU School of Medicine Alumni Programs for Medical Students

The IU School of Medicine is proud to provide professional development and networking support to current Indiana University School of Medicine students.

Help Our Students Travel (HOST) Program

The Help Our Students Travel program connects IU School of Medicine alumni with fourth-year students who are traveling for residency interviews. The HOST program encourages alumni to house a traveling student to help offset some of the expenses associated with the residency interview process. Students in need of housing or alumni interested in boarding a student should complete an application form on the HOST page.

Resident Ambassador Program

Similar to HOST, the Resident Ambassador program connects fourth-year medical students and alumni over the course of their final year in medical school. Alumni can choose to serve as ambassadors to our medical students at two times during their fourth-year of medical school. During residency interview season that occurs in the fall and winter, alumni serve as resources while students explore residency programs and new communities across the country. After students match to a residency program in March, alumni are called to serve as ambassadors to students who will be relocating to communities of our alumni. Students or alumni interested in participating should complete an application form on the Resident Ambassador page.

Physician Mentor Program

Each medical student at Indiana University School of Medicine is assigned a physician mentor by the assigned first-year campus, and this mentor provides one-on-one or group mentoring through all four years of the student’s medical school journey. Physician mentors serve as positive role models and work in partnership with lead advisors to encourage and support students as they navigate medical school coursework and clerkships. Students meet with their physician mentor a couple of times each year—either individually or with other students. Learn more about serving as a physician mentor below.
