Message from the Program Director

Welcome all to the IU School of Medicine Family Medicine Residency program at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper, IN. We are very happy to be meeting you and are honored that you are interested in our program.

The Family Medicine Residency program at Memorial is entering its third year. The effort and dedication to this program by faculty, staff and administration at the hospital is palpable. The goal is to train residents who are knowledgeable, compassionate and want to serve those patients living in a rural community. I can tell you that the residents who will be entering their third year of training when you arrive will be all of that and more.

The more is what makes the Family Medicine Residency in Jasper unique. As an unopposed residency program, our learners get to experience patient care and procedures first hand. They receive a personalized education from faculty members and can work to pursue their personal interests within family medicine.

The more also includes training in a faith based institution which lives and breathes its mission every day. To provide compassionate care and to “be for others” is what family physicians do best and you will get to experience that from every faculty and staff member who is involved in your education. Along with caring for our patients, we care for each other. Faculty and staff want to make your residency experience a great one. We hope that you would have experiences that you would carry with you throughout your career in medicine.

The more includes wellness initiatives embedded into your entire education. Regular check ins with faculty members, a Balint-like group that meets regularly and activities planned to allow you to let off steam and relax for a bit. We also create a family environment where faculty and residents work together and are easily accessible to each other.

The community of Jasper has welcomed our residents with open arms. There is everything you need in this community – nice housing, shopping, events and entertainment. This is a wonderful and safe community and a great place to raise a family.

Thank you again for considering our program. If you have any questions about the program or about Jasper, please do not hesitate to contact us.
