Bio

After receiving her undergraduate degree at IU Bloomington, Dr. Shaina M. Hecht completed medical school at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio and her residency and fellowship training at Nationwide Children’s in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Hecht returned to Indiana University in 2020 as the Associate Director for Pediatric Global Health Education, and also leads the ID rotation for the residents and students. Education is her passion, and she recently took on the role of Associate Fellowship Program Director as well. She has led multiple simulations for the pediatric residents on the topic of cultural humility and recently incorporated an augmented pre-departure training for the residents prior to international electives. She enjoys the teaching that her clinical time rotating on the general ID service and the immunocompromised ID consult service provides, in addition to time in the pediatric infectious disease clinic. She is also one of the Associate Medical Directors for Infection Prevention with Dr. Christenson, with the team being led by Dr. Bhumbra. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, exploring new restaurants, hiking, traveling, and shopping for a good deal.
