Zach Berrens, MD, MPH, joined the IU School of Medicine in 2017 after completing his Pediatrics residency and a fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Berrens earned his Doctorate in Medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Prior to entering medical school, he obtained his Masters of Public Health in Hospital and Molecular Epidemiology from the University of Michigan.
As an attending, he instructs resident physicians and medical students in the practice and protocols of critical care. Dr. Berrens has a special interest in sepsis management in low resource settings and pediatric global health education. In addition, he has worked on improving patient safety by utilizing telemedicine to more efficiently facilitate an escalation in care for deteriorating patients.
In addition to service to his patients, his section, and the School of Medicine, Dr. Berrens is a citizen of the world, giving time to global health activities both domestically and abroad. He has spent time providing medical care and improving health systems in Tanzania, Malawi, China, and India.
