Bio

Why I chose general surgery as a career: I chose general surgery because I think it’s a career that allows you to have a huge and meaningful impact on patients’ lives. I chose it over other surgical subspecialties because I really like the heavy medicine focus and dealing with sick patients. I think it allows you to have a much more meaningful encounter with a patient than some of the more elective surgical subspecialties.

Why I chose the IU School of Medicine General Surgery Residency Program: I chose Indiana for two major reasons. First, I want to go into pediatric surgery and IU has a great match rate at top programs, something I never knew before my interview day. That was something non-negotiable for me when looking at programs. The second was location. I’m from the Midwest and most of my family is still in the Midwest. The road to peds is long with a required seven year residency to match and I felt I would be happiest going through a tough program with family around for support.

Professional/Research Interests: Pediatric Surgery. I’m interested in health services research, mostly based on my strong interest in caring for underserved populations and finding better ways to deliver high quality care.

Personal Interests/Hobbies: I absolutely LOVE Latin dancing. I used to participate in performance teams and did some choreography in undergrad and med school. Haven’t found a dance studio in Indy yet, but hopefully soon!
