Bo Zhao, PhD, was appointed Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery in December 2016. He joined the IU School of Medicine after working with Dr. Ulrich Müller at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California. With a doctorate in Neurobiology, Dr. Zhao is most interested to identify novel molecules and pathways required for auditory perceptions. His research goal is to develop new therapeutic treatment for some forms of sensorineural hearing loss, caused by defects in cochlear hair cells.

Dr. Zhao recently received funding from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) for his research, entitled “Fam65b function in hearing and deafness.” He continues his research in the Laboratory of Molecular Mechanisms of Auditory Perception and Deafness, located in the Glick Eye Institute on the IUPUI campus.
