Bio
Per Amundson, MD, is an emergency radiologist and has been a member of the Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences faculty since 2019. He earned his B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Utah. He earned his medical degree at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda Maryland. Dr. Amundson completed his radiology residency at David Grant Medical Center in California and his neuroradiology fellowship at Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University in St Louis.
He served 16 years on active duty in the U.S. Air Force separating at the rank of Lt. Col. After completing a transitional internship, he became the Senior Flight Surgeon with the 93rdAir Control Wing, at Robins Air Force Base. After radiology residency he became a Staff Diagnostic Radiologist and ultimately Chief of the 375th Diagnostic Imaging Flight at Scott AFB in Illinois. He was deployed twice to Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar in the capacity of radiologist and as a Medical Operations Commander.
After separating in July 2008, he became the Medical Director Radiology at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion, IL. Upon completing a neuroradiology fellowship at WUSTL/MIR in 2011, he became partner at SIRA Bloomington Indiana and served as Medical Director of Radiology at IU Health Bloomington Hospital until 2017.
