Heather A. Smith, MD

Heather Smith, MD, has roots in Indianapolis that run deep.

Having grown up in the state’s capitol, Smith received her undergraduate degree at IUPUI before attending Indiana University School of Medicine for both medical school and residency, and completing a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at Riley Hospital for Children.

She joined the Department of Ophthalmology as a faculty member upon completing her training, and now works at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health, where she cares for children with a variety of vision and eye disorders. 

Smith said she was attracted to ophthalmology as a subspecialty because it allowed her to help people every day. She tries to instill in her students the same ethics of hard work and always putting patients first.
