Nuclear Medicine Technology Career
Nuclear medicine technologists image physiological processes in the body by administering radiopharmaceuticals to patients and then following the radioactivity uptake throughout the body.
Nuclear medicine technologists are members of a health care team who perform diagnostic and therapeutic examinations using radiopharmaceuticals. Nuclear medicine technologists perform specialized tests, examinations and treatments with radiopharmaceuticals using a combination of imaging sciences equipment.
These technologists are educated in anatomy, physiology, radionuclides, radiation protection and basic patient care.
What is nuclear medicine?
Nuclear medicine is a branch of imaging sciences that uses small amounts of radioactive to examine internal organ function. The pathway and collection of radioactivity within the patient’s body can help to diagnose pathological conditions as well as treat those conditions.
