Resident Life

The Indiana University School of Medicine Indianapolis campus is located just a mile and a half from the center of downtown Indianapolis, which is ranked nationally for livability and ranked eighth by Forbes for best places in the nation for business and careers, with recognition for major health care industry contributions.

Indianapolis offers many opportunities for cultural and historical enrichment, including a symphony, theaters and museums. The award-winning Indianapolis Zoo, Children’s Museum and Conner Prairie also provide residents with cultural activities and entertainment year round.

Benefits

IU School of Medicine residents receive a benefits package that includes comprehensive health and medical coverage as well as mental health and personal counseling care. Paid time off for residents and fellows is also encouraged, and house staff receive on-call meals, preferential parking at no charge, and tuition discounts at Indiana University for dependents and spouse. Department of Urology residents also receive an educational stipend ($1500-$2750 depending on year) to help pay for books and other educational items and four weeks of vacation each year.

Retreats and Events

Urology residents and fellows participate in several retreats and activities throughout each year of the program. The department hosts barbeques to kick off the academic year as well as holiday parties. There is also an annual go cart racing event and golf outing each summer.
