MD Education

Electives are available for medical students at Indiana University School of Medicine who want to pursue an interest in urology. Opportunities are available for medical students to participate in research as well as clinical experience. Some MD students rotate with urology when on the surgery block, but urology is not a required clerkship. MD-level coursework focusing on urology is optional and available in the MD electives catalog. Visiting medical students are welcome to apply to these programs.

Urology clerkship

The MD urology clerkship is an extension of clinical experience in urology that goes beyond the core clerkship level to include patient diagnosis and care. This program at IU School of Medicine provides a broad exposure to the surgical and medical management of urologic diseases and puts heavy emphasis on urologic cancer, laparoscopy and reconstruction. Participants are exposed to cases at Indiana University Health Riley Hospital for Children, IU Health Methodist hospital, IU Health University Hospital and Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital, which are all near the IU School of Medicine campus in Indianapolis. There are also elective options near the Indiana University Bloomington campus. Visiting MD students may rotate one-on-one with faculty through clinic. Eight full-time positions are available for this clinical program, which is open to fourth-year medical students.
