He completed his undergraduate degree in political philosophy at the University of Dallas in Texas, and completed a joint degree program in medicine and philosophy at Indiana University. His residency in diagnostic radiology was also completed at Indiana University, and his subspecialty fellowship training in pediatric radiology was at Riley Hospital.

His clinical work is at the intersection of several areas of medicine, and he is a member of the Departments of Radiology, Pediatrics, Surgery, and Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is a founding executive committee member of The Fetal Center at Riley Children’s Health.

Dr. Brown's clinical work is closely aligned with his research, which focuses on advanced imaging techniques to enable diagnosis of and counseling for families with high-risk pregnancy and complex congenital anomalies. He is active in research on the human placenta, focusing on placental blood flow and its relationship to fetal abnormalities.

In the department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences, Dr. Brown is the first Vice-Chair for Professional Development and Wellness, overseeing committees focused on diversity, employee recognition, career planning, and promotions, among other initiatives.

Dr. Brown's varied work in fetal medicine, perinatal imaging, medical ethics, and professionalism combine to allow him to stay in close contact with the clinical, research, and educational missions of academic medicine.
