Bio

Dr. McKinzie received his BA degree from Purdue University in 1989 and PhD degree from Binghamton University in 1993. Following a post-doctoral and assistant professor appointment at the IUSM, he moved over to Eli Lilly for a 19 year career within the Neuroscience Discovery Research Division.  During this time, Dr. McKinzie led multiple efforts into the clinic focused upon psychiatric and neurological therapeutic indications. In 2018, Dr. McKinzie left Lilly as a Research Fellow to again join the IUSM as a Professor within the Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology. Besides his own research lab focusing upon opioid use disorder and Alzheimer’s Disease, he established and directs a de novo Behavioral Phenotyping Core that supports in vivo physiology research for internal IUSM investigators as well as external researchers.
