Combined Fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine

The adult and pediatric combined T32 fellowship at IU School of Medicine is a predoctoral PhD training program in pulmonary and critical care medicine. The program trains physicians to become outstanding researchers or entrepreneurs in both adult and pediatric pulmonary and critical care medicine.

This T32 program enables one predoctoral PhD student and four postdoctoral fellows (PhD, MD, PhD/MD) to participate in novel pulmonary related research, including COPD/ emphysema, pulmonary hypertension, asthma, cystic fibrosis, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, ICU delirium, critical care outcomes, and early origins of adult lung disease.

Application Process

Applications for T32 support of predoctoral trainees interested in this predoctoral PhD fellowship program in adult and pediatric pulmonary and critical care medicine at IU School of Medicine are accepted on a rolling deadline and can be submitted at any time of year. Decisions regarding trainee sponsorship are made by the T32 Selection Committee.

Stipend and Benefits

The T32 mechanism provides support for PhD students in this program, including tuition and fees. A stipend is assigned individually to trainees based on the current graduate student stipend amounts. Health insurance as well as up to $1000 per year is provided to cover travel costs to a professional/scientific meeting or to visit an external lab for additional training.

The T32 mechanism provides support for postdoctoral fellows in the postdoctoral (PhD, MD or PhD/MD) training program in adult and pediatric pulmonary and critical care medicine, including tuition for required ethics course and for optional bone biology course. A salary is assigned individually to trainees based on the current NIH postdoctoral scale. Health insurance as well as up to $1000 per year is provided to cover travel costs to a professional/scientific meeting or to visit an external lab for additional training.
