Research

The Division of Pediatric Critical Care at IU School of Medicine is involved in several multi-center studies with a national presence that focus on topics ranging from the age of blood at transfusion and sepsis and shock to stem cell and respiratory failure. Additional studies are exploring the costs and impacts of health care utilization to improve patient care and outcomes.

The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit is also involved in multi-center studies through the Society of Thoracic Surgery Registry, focusing on issues such as tracheostomy after cardiac surgery, extubation failure after neonatal cardiac surgery, and the evaluation of neonatal respiratory failure among sites in the Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Consortium. In addition to these primary investigator-driven studies, each of the pediatric critical care fellows at IU School of Medicine are required to complete a research project during the course of their three-year program.
