What Pediatrics Residents Say

I absolutely love being a resident at Riley Hospital for Children. The experiences and knowledge I gain every single day help me become the type of pediatrician I strive to be. I was looking for a program that has patient-care, education, and genuine kindness as core values, and this describes Riley perfectly. I also wanted to be exposed to amazing primary and subspecialty care pediatricians to be able to provide care to all types of patients. The staff and program leadership at Riley want to assist in any way they can to help me achieve my goals. I am not originally from Indianapolis, but I absolutely love this city. I love spending my free time discovering new restaurants (that are all vegetarian friendly), walking to my favorite yoga studio, taking my dog on walks on the Canal, and getting together with my co-residents (who are also some of my best friends) after work! My husband is also a medical student in Indianapolis. This city has so much to offer, and choosing to stay here to train at Riley was never a question in my mind!

I have been part of the Riley family for over a year now, and I can say with certainty that applying here was one of the best decisions of my life. Our program truly cares about its residents, and they are continually assessing our needs and interests to maximize our training. Riley is such an extraordinary place to learn about a wide variety of patients, given that we have all pediatrics sub-specialties on campus. I have had the opportunity to create strong bonds with patients and their families, particularly in my clinic, where I see a very diverse population. Riley is a very inclusive place where everyone is welcomed. This is reflected in our program and how welcoming they are to foreign medical graduates like myself. I am honored to train in such an impressive academic center.

From my very first Hospitalist rotation, I quickly realized just how lucky I was to match at Riley. I was given the independence to care for my patients while always feeling a sense of support should I need it. The faculty and residents are always eager to teach, and it’s refreshing to see how enthusiastic they can be about their patients. I knew I wanted to train somewhere that would provide a great combination of general pediatrics training while also providing the opportunity to see once-in-a-career cases, and Riley has provided that and so much more!

I wanted to come to Riley for the comprehensive amount of clinical experiences I knew I'd get - every sub-specialty seems to be well represented and supported here! And after starting, I've found that everyone tries to support us even beyond our clinical duties. They've encouraged us to pursue our own personal passion projects (for instance, advocacy projects regarding gun safety, environmental issues, and racism) and enjoy life outside of work (like supplying funding for social events and wine & painting parties). I really appreciate every single person who works here and have had a ton of fun since starting residency!
